Border security plays an important role in strengthening the international supply chain. When the Security and Accountability for Every Port Act passed in 2006, it established a statutory framework for the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism, or CTPAT. In addition, the law imposed strict oversight requirements.
What is CTPAT?
CTPAT is an important component of CBP’s multi-layered border-enforcement strategy. It’s a voluntary, public-private sector partnership meant to protect the supply chain, identify security gaps and implement specific security measures and best practices.
Businesses that apply for the program must present a comprehensive list of security profiles and action plans designed to improve security throughout the supply chain.
Aside from improving America’s national security interests, CTPAT makes it easier for member entities to get through border crossings quickly and efficiently. This is because CTPAT member entities are considered low risk and are therefore less likely to be examined at U.S. ports of entry.

How long has De Mase participated in the CTPAT program?
We decided to join the CTPAT program in 2009. In the more than 10 years since we’ve established a set of policies that ensure transport safety for all of our clients. In fact, we regularly:

PIP, or Partners in Protection, is similar to CTPAT. It’s a private-public partnership designed to streamline and make border crossings more efficient for pre-approved, low-risk businesses that are recognized as trusted leaders.
